Cantos — a study of the first antibody to block systemic inflammation in heart disease. Canakinumab binds to inteukin-1? and has been studies previously in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and COPD. This study will enroll patients with prior MI's who continue to have elevated levels of hsCRP.

Educate — a study of clopidogrel plus ASA comparing 12 months versus 30 months post PCI for a drug-releasing stent.

Elixa — a study of a once-per-day GLP-1 (glucagon-like-peptide) receptor agonist which may have the advantage of lowering blood glucose by a glucose-dependent stimulation of insulin release and inhibition of glucagon secretion. These drugs also delay gastric emptying and reduce appetite and will be used in diabetics post MI.

Excel — a study of patients with left main or three vessel coronary artery disease comparing PCI versus CABG. This study will be starting in January 2012 and will be recruiting patients for about 1 year.

Expert CTO — a study to establish the safety and effectiveness of the XIENCE VR Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent, XIENCE nanoT Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent, HT PROGRESS and HT PILOT Coronary Guide Wires, and MINI-TREK Coronary Dilatation Catheter in patients undergoing elective percutaneous revascularization of native chronic total coronary occlusions.

Harvest CABG — a study for patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and EF ? 40% who will have bone-marrow derived stem cells implanted at the time of CABG surgery. The long-term systolic function and recurrent ischemia will be compared between the 2 groups.

Orbit III — a study to measure how the DiamondBack Orbital Atherectomy system performs when used to treat blockage in coronary arteries.

Precision — patients with arthritis have a higher incidence of cardiac events, possibly related to systemic inflammation. This is a study of the effects of ibuprofen, naproxen, or Celebrex on cardiac events in patients who take daily arthritis medicines.

Stride — a cardiac evaluation of patients entering a drug rehabilitation program, randomized to an exercise program versus the usual intensive educational program to prevent recurrent illegal drug use.

Symplicity — a study to demonstrate that renal denervation using the Symplicity Catheter System, a safe and effective treatment for uncontrolled hypertension.

Synergene — a cardiac evaluation of patients about to undergo chemotherapy with a p53 gene-treated liposome. The p53 liposome is approximately the same size as an LDL particle and could potentially enter atherosclerotic plaques.

US Pella — a registry to assess outcomes using a catheter-mounted, LVAD-like device for PCI.

Vest Predicts — a study to see if an external automatic defibrillator vest will reduce overall mortality 60 days following an MI in patients with EF < 35%.

VISTA — a study of the second medicine to block phospholipase A-2, which is associated with inflammation post myocardial infarction. The study drug varespladib will be used for 16 weeks after an episode of acute coronary syndrome.
